How to connect Slack to SolMarrow step by step, what you can publish, the limits, and tips for better Slack posts.

How to connect

  1. Open Accounts in the SolMarrow sidebar.
  2. Choose Slack.
  3. Install the SolMarrow Slack app and pick the channel on Slack's own screen. There's no password to share: Slack handles the sign-in and the permission, and you can remove the app from your Slack workspace whenever you like.
  4. Back in SolMarrow, the account shows as connected. You can now pick it under Post to in the composer.
Tip: Connect in the same browser where you are already signed in to the network, so you only need to confirm.

What you can publish

  • Text messages: Up to 4,000 characters, enough for a weekly update, a release note or an internal newsletter.
  • Messages with images and video: Attach up to 10 images and videos to one message, mixed as you like. Videos can be up to 1 GB.

Limits

  • Text: up to 4,000 characters.
  • Media: up to 10 images or up to 10 videos.

Tips

  • Put the point in the first line: Slack notifications show only the start of a message. Make the first line say what changed or what people need to do.
  • Use @channel sparingly: Mentions that notify everyone are easy to overuse. Save them for messages that need action today, so people keep paying attention.
  • Keep a regular slot: A weekly update that lands at the same time every week becomes something people look for instead of something they skim past.
  • Write for scanning: Short paragraphs, line breaks and simple lists are easier to read in a busy channel than one long block of text.

Questions

Can I schedule messages to a Slack channel?

Yes. Install the SolMarrow Slack app, pick the channel on Slack's screen, and SolMarrow posts your messages there at the time you schedule.

How is this different from scheduling inside Slack?

Slack can schedule a single message. SolMarrow adds a calendar of everything planned, CSV upload for up to 500 messages at once, approvals and client review links, and the same post going to your social networks.

Can I schedule direct messages to people?

No. SolMarrow posts to the channel you choose when you install the app. Direct messages to individuals aren't supported.

Can I attach images and videos?

Yes. A message can include up to 10 images and videos, mixed together, with videos of up to 1 GB.
