Connect DEV
How to connect DEV to SolMarrow step by step, what you can publish, the limits, and tips for better DEV posts.
What you can post: dev.to articles.
How to connect
- Open Accounts in the SolMarrow sidebar.
- Choose DEV.
- Connect with your DEV API key, which you generate on DEV under Settings → Extensions, and paste it into SolMarrow once. You can revoke the key on DEV at any time.
- Back in SolMarrow, the account shows as connected. You can now pick it under Post to in the composer.
What you can publish
- Articles: Markdown articles with a title of up to 128 characters and up to 4 tags, published at the time you choose.
- DEV drafts: Save the article as a draft on DEV instead, so you can preview it there before you hit publish.
Limits
- Text: up to 100,000 characters.
- Media: no uploaded media.
- Markdown text; the first line becomes the title unless you set one.
Tips
- Pick tags people follow: DEV readers follow tags like javascript, webdev or beginners. Choose the 4 that describe your article best, since tags shape who sees it in their feed.
- Lead with the problem: Developers decide fast whether a post is for them. Say in the first paragraph what problem the article solves and what readers can do after reading it.
- Format code properly: Use fenced code blocks with a language name, like ```js, so DEV highlights the syntax. Keep snippets short and runnable.
- Write in series: Split a big topic into shorter parts and schedule them a week apart. Readers come back for the next part, and each article stays focused.
Questions
Can I schedule articles to dev.to?
Yes. Write your article in SolMarrow, pick a date and time, and SolMarrow publishes it to DEV through the official API. You can also save it as a DEV draft instead.
Where do I find my DEV API key?
On DEV, open Settings → Extensions and generate an API key. Paste it into SolMarrow when you connect. You can revoke it on DEV whenever you like.
How do images work in DEV articles?
DEV's API doesn't accept image uploads, so images go into the article as Markdown image links. Link to images hosted online and DEV displays them in the article.
How many tags can I add, and how long can the title be?
Up to 4 tags per article and a title of up to 128 characters. The composer checks the title before you schedule.
